EXPLANATION OF SPIRITUAL GIFTS

 

LEADING/ADMINISTRATION — ORGANIZING God’s People and Resources

  • An ability to visualize the final result

  • An ability to break down major goals into smaller, achievable goals

  • A tendency to remove oneself from distracting details in order to focus on the ultimate goal

  • The ability to delegate

  • A joy in seeing the finished product

SERVICE — HELPING God’s People

  • An ability to see practical needs and desire to meet them

  • A joy in serving when it frees others to fulfill their duties

  • A special enjoyment in providing for physical needs and comforts

  • A strong desire to be with others

  • An enjoyment of short-range projects

 

SHARING/GIVING — SUPPORTING God’s CHURCH

  • A keen ability to discern wise investments in order to have a greater resource of giving

  • A desire to give quietly

  • A tendency to practice frugality

  • An ability to see financial needs overlooked by others

  • A desire to give gifts of high quality

 

PROPHECY/DISCERNMENT — PROCLAIMING God’s WORD

  • The need to express thoughts and ideas verbally

  • An amazing ability to sense when someone or something is not what it appears to be

  • Openness about personal faults and failures

  • A willingness to suffer for doing what is right

  • An ability to be very persuasive in defining what is right and what is wrong.

 

EVANGELISM — SHARING the GOSPEL

  • A unique ability by the Holy Spirit to clearly and effectively communicate the Gospel

  • A burden for the lost

  • Ability to overcome fear and engage non-believers

 

TEACHING — INSTRUCTING God’s People

  • The need to validate truth

  • The desire to present truth systematically

  • A delight in researching and reporting

  • An alertness to factual details

EXHORTATION — ENCOURAGING God’s People

  • A motivation to urge people to their full spiritual maturity

  • A desire to give precise steps of action toward spiritual growth

  • A motivation to bring harmony

  • Comfortable in one on one relationships

 

MERCY — Sharing God’s LOVE

  • An ability to sense genuine love

  • A need for deep friendships

  • A greater concern over felt needs than physical needs

  • A tendency to attract people who are hurting

  • A desire to remove the cause of the hurt rather than look for the benefits

 

HOSPITALITY — Making God’s People Feel WELCOME and at HOME

  • Are friendly and able to interact with people comfortably

  • Like to meet and greet new people and have “never met a stranger”

  • Are willing to open up their home

  • Enjoy organizing or participating in events that connect people to the church

  • Have a strong desire and ability to make strangers and visitors feel welcome.

 

INTERCESSION — PRAYING for God’s People

  • Keep a constant dialogue with God throughout the day

  • Consistently pray for people and ministries

  • Follow through when asked to pray for people

  • May have set times for prayer

  • Have a strong belief that God works powerfully in the world and responds to prayer

 

FAITH — BELIEVING in God for unseen supernatural results in every arena of life. 

  • Have an unshakeable trust in God’s power and love which they can help others to see

  • Are not dismayed when situations look bleak, believing that “all things work together towards the good for those who love the Lord” (Romans 8:28)

  • Believe that things happen for a reason and that God is active in the world

  • Are bold in their prayer life, asking God for things which only he could make possible

  • See no challenge as insurmountable, and set very high spiritual, financial, and relational goals

 

PASTOR/SHEPHERD — Caring for the SPIRITUAL NEEDS of God’s People

  • Have a desire and an ability to help Christians grow to greater maturity in the faith

  • Enjoy guiding, mentoring and nurturing people

  • Desire to help people overcome spiritual, emotional, or physical problems in their lives

  • Want to protect people from harmful influences and help bind up the wounded

  • Have a following of people who trust them because of their attention, and who often go to them for counseling
